4th Of July Flank Steak

The 4th of July is the perfect time to pull out your Fuego grill and cook up somethin’ delicious. We tried this grilled marinated flank steak recipe from Simply Recipes and if you are looking for something to grill this weekend, look no further!


What You’ll Need:

  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 pounds flank steak

What You’ll Do:

  1. Marinate:
    1. Combine the ingredients in a large bowl
    2. Place steak in the bowl and make sure it gets completely coated with the marinade. (Alternative: place steak and marinade in a freezer bag and then in a bowl.)
  2. Chill and marinate for at least 2 hours or as long as overnight.
  3. Prepare your grill for high, direct heat.
  4. Grill the steak:
    1. Take the steak out of the marinade and carefully shake the extra marinade off the steak. Make sure you leave a coating of it, the oil will help to help keep the steak from sticking to the grill.
  5. Place steak on the grill. Grill for a minute or two on each side to get a good sear, then turn the heat down, move the steak to an indirect heat, cover and cook a few minutes more until done to your liking.
  6. To tell if the steak is done poke it with your fingertips. The squishier it is the more rare/raw it is. The harder it is the more done.
  7. When the steak is done, remove it from the grill and place on a cutting board. Cover with aluminum foil for 10 to 15 minutes.
  8. Slice: Notice the direction of the muscle fibers of the steak; this is called the grain of the meat. Flank steak is a very lean cut that will be tough and chewy unless you cut it across the grain.
  9. Cut at a steep diagonal, so that the slices are wide. You can use a long serrated bread knife or any long sharp knife.
  10. If you want, you can take the excess marinade and bring it to a boil, simmer for several minutes, and serve with the flank steak. We totally recommend doing this!
